WordPress maintenance the platform does for you

Backups that are proven to restore, monitoring that notices before your visitors do, and a safe way to make risky changes. Included with hosting — not sold as a separate retainer.

Automated backups — every one restore-tested nightly in a sandbox
Per-minute uptime monitoring with email, webhook and Slack alerts
TLS expiry alerts, so a lapsed certificate never takes you offline
Site cloning before risky changes — test on a copy, then go live

The backup pipeline

A backup is only real once it has been restored

Every host says "daily backups". The question that matters is: has anyone ever tested them? On G7Cloud the answer is yes — every single one, every night, automatically.

1 · Capture

Your files and dedicated MariaDB database are backed up on your schedule — daily, weekly, monthly — plus manual snapshots before big changes. Backups are incremental, so history stays affordable.

2 · Store & ship

Backups are stored on the platform, and you can add an off-site copy to your own S3, Cloudflare R2 or SFTP target — your data, under your control.

3 · Restore-test nightly

An automated job performs a genuine restore of each backup into an isolated sandbox — not a checksum, an actual working restore of files and database.

4 · Restore your way

When you need it: full-site restore, a single file, or database-only. Deleted one template by accident? You do not have to roll back the whole site.

Monitoring & alerts

Know your site is down before your customers do

An independent monitor checks every site once a minute. We will not quote you an uptime percentage — nobody can honestly guarantee one — but we will make sure that when something does go wrong, you hear about it immediately and with enough detail to act.

  • HTTP checks every minute on every monitored site
  • Alerts by email, webhook or Slack the moment a check fails
  • Daily digest summarising your sites’ health
  • TLS certificate expiry alerts well before the deadline
  • Resource metrics (CPU, memory) with 90-day retention

Safe changes

Risky updates deserve a rehearsal

We do not blind-auto-update your plugins — that is how sites break at 3am. We give you a better workflow instead.

Clone the site

One click in the dashboard creates a working copy of your WordPress site — files and database — for WordPress and PHP sites.

Break the copy, not the site

Run the plugin update, the theme change or the PHP 8.4 switch on the clone. Click through checkout, forms, admin. Find the problems where they cost nothing.

Apply to live with confidence

Repeat the change on the live site knowing exactly what it does — with a manual snapshot taken first and restore-tested backups behind you.

WordPress maintenance — honest answers

What backup schedules are available?

Daily, weekly and monthly schedules, plus manual snapshots whenever you want one — before a plugin update, for example. Backups are incremental, and you can restore a full site, a single file or just the database. Off-site copies to your own S3, Cloudflare R2 or SFTP target are supported.

How do I know my backups actually work?

Because we test them — every night, automatically. Each backup is restored into an isolated sandbox, files and database, to prove it is genuinely recoverable. Almost no host does this: the industry norm is to discover a corrupt backup at restore time, which is the worst possible moment.

Do you automatically update my plugins and themes?

No, and we think that is the honest position. Blind auto-updates break sites. Instead we give you the safe workflow: clone your site in one click, run the updates on the clone, check everything works, then apply the same updates to live. WP-CLI is available if you prefer to script it.

What does the uptime monitoring actually check?

An independent monitor requests your site every minute. If it stops responding you get an alert by email, webhook or Slack — usually before your visitors mention it. You also get a daily digest, TLS certificate expiry alerts, and 90 days of resource metrics for the container.

Can I move a site between PHP versions safely?

Yes. PHP 7.4 through 8.4 are available per site. The safe path is built in: clone the site, switch the clone to the new PHP version, click through it, then switch the live site once you are satisfied. If anything goes wrong you still have restore-tested backups.
