- Most AI website builders generate a design, not an application — check whether you need a database before choosing.
- Wix and Framer keep your site inside their platform; exporting and leaving is hard or impossible.
- 10Web is the strongest option if you specifically want WordPress underneath.
- G7Cloud's differentiator: the AI ships a real, database-backed site with an admin panel — and you own the code.
What 'AI Website Builder' Actually Means in 2026
The label 'AI website builder' now covers two very different products, and the difference matters more than any feature list. The first kind uses AI to generate a design: it picks a layout, writes some copy, fills in stock imagery, and hands you a page to tweak. The second kind uses AI to generate an application: pages, yes, but also a database, an admin area, and working functionality like checkout or bookings.
If you need a brochure site — who we are, what we do, how to reach us — the first kind is fine, and several tools do it well. If you need a site that does something — sell products, take bookings, manage listings, publish articles through a proper editor — a generated design is only the start of your work, because the functional layer still has to come from somewhere: plugins, third-party embeds, or a developer.
This comparison looks at five tools through that lens: Wix ADI, Framer AI, 10Web, Durable, and our own G7Cloud AI Website Builder. We build one of the products being compared, so read our take on competitors as informed but interested — and verify anything that matters against the vendors' own sites.
How We Judged Them
Five questions, applied to each tool. What does the AI actually produce — a picture of a website, or a working one? How good is the result out of the box, honestly? What happens when you want to change something the AI got wrong? What do you own at the end — can you take the code and data and leave? And what does it really cost once you're past the teaser tier?

Wix ADI — Best for Ecosystem Breadth
Wix's AI site generation is the most mature of the drag-and-drop generation. Answer a few questions and it assembles a reasonable site from its enormous template and component library. The surrounding ecosystem is genuinely excellent: an app market covering everything from restaurant menus to event ticketing, built-in SEO tooling, and years of polish on the editor.
The trade-offs are structural. A Wix site lives on Wix, full stop — there is no code export, so leaving means rebuilding from scratch. The AI output leans heavily on templates, so sites tend to look like Wix sites. And costs climb per site: Wix Core is £16/month (as of July 2026) and the tiers most businesses actually need sit above that, before app-market subscriptions.
Choose Wix if you want the largest ecosystem of ready-made site add-ons and you're comfortable renting your website permanently.
Framer AI — Best for Design Polish
Framer produces the best-looking AI-generated marketing sites of any tool here, and it isn't close. The output is modern, the typography is considered, and the animation system is the best in the category. For a design-led landing page or portfolio, Framer AI gets you something genuinely impressive in minutes.
But Framer is a design tool at heart. Its CMS is serviceable for a blog or a small collection, and anything more — user accounts, a real product catalogue with stock, custom business logic — is outside what it's for. You're also building inside Framer's hosted platform: there's no full code export that recreates your working site elsewhere.
Choose Framer if visual polish for a marketing site is the whole job and you have (or are) someone with an eye for design.
10Web — Best If You Want WordPress Underneath
10Web takes a different angle: its AI generates a WordPress site built with Elementor, hosted on 10Web's own infrastructure. That's a meaningful ownership advantage over Wix and Framer — underneath the AI layer is standard WordPress, so you can export your content, and the skills and plugins of the WordPress ecosystem apply.
The compromises come from the same place as the benefits. Elementor page-building brings real weight, so performance needs attention. The AI layer is a front-end to WordPress rather than a new kind of product — once generated, you're maintaining a WordPress site with everything that implies: updates, plugins, and occasional plugin conflicts.
Choose 10Web if you've already decided you want WordPress and would like AI to handle the initial assembly.
Durable — Best for a Site in Minutes
Durable's pitch is speed: it famously generates a complete small-business site in well under a minute, with copy, images and a contact form in place. For a sole trader who needs a web presence today — a plumber, a cleaner, a dog walker — that speed is a real feature, and the built-in extras like invoicing lean into that audience.
The honest limitation is depth. The output is a competent template with your details filled in, and it doesn't go much deeper: customisation is limited, the sites are visually similar to each other, and there's no path to a shop or booking system with real data behind it. It is the fastest way to get a simple site, and simple is where it stays.
Choose Durable if you need a presentable one-pager this afternoon and depth genuinely does not matter.
G7Cloud — Best for Real, Database-Backed Sites You Own
Our builder exists because of the gap every tool above leaves open: the AI draws you a website, but the working parts — database, admin area, checkout — remain your problem. The G7Cloud AI Website Builder ships them as part of the build.
Describe what you need and the AI builds a real application: an online shop comes with product variants, stock tracking, collections, discount codes, order management, image uploads and Stripe checkout using your own Stripe keys — plus an admin panel you log into to run it all. The same applies to the other blueprints: bookings, CMS/blog, real estate, restaurant, events, or a custom brief. Static brochure sites work too, if that's all you need.
After generation you refine by clicking any element and telling the AI what to change, with per-turn checkpoints so you can undo any step. There's a brand-kit import that lifts colours and tone from an existing site, and — the part we consider non-negotiable — a code browser: it's your code, you can read it and export it.
Honest limitations: we launched in 2026, so the ecosystem is small next to Wix's app market, and there's no free-form drag-and-drop canvas — editing happens through the AI and click-to-edit, which is a different way of working. Pricing is fixed and in GBP: a free plan (no card) publishes one site to a sites.g7cloud.com subdomain, custom domains start on Starter at £9/month, and full-stack apps — shop, bookings, CMS with database and admin panel — start on Business at £19/month.
Side by Side
The table below is the short version of everything above.
| Builder | What the AI produces | Own the code? | Pricing model |

| Framer AI | Design-led marketing site in Framer | No full export | Per-site subscription |
| 10Web | WordPress + Elementor site | Partly — standard WordPress underneath | Subscription bundled with 10Web hosting |
| Durable | Simple service-business site in under a minute | No | Low-cost subscription |
| G7Cloud | Database-backed app with admin panel: shop, bookings, CMS… | Yes — browse and export the code | Free plan; full-stack apps from £19/mo fixed |

The Verdict
There is no single best AI website builder — there is a best one for what you're building. For the biggest ecosystem of bolt-on features, Wix. For sheer visual polish on a marketing site, Framer. For AI-assembled WordPress, 10Web. For a presentable page before your tea goes cold, Durable.
And if the thing you actually need is a working business site — a shop with real stock, bookings with a real calendar, content with a real editor — G7Cloud is, as far as we know, the only AI builder in this list that ships the database, the admin panel and the code as yours. The free plan needs no card, so the cheapest way to test that claim is to try it.
